Why (art) job has to be humiliating?
This is a follow up of this story “Why art is NOT for free” - a story, for those who think that we should not make money from “pleasure job” which is art. I still keep receiving lots of comments on it - that gave me to think even further.
I, with other working professionally artists, have constantly explain that art is my job like any other job. Then keep defending that client work is not any pleasure for me - but rather an obligation that weI have to finish (sounding very unpleasant). It’s a work (again unpleasant tone). Not a fun thing.

Happy Birthday to H.P. Lovectaft!
In case you missed the subject line, I can hardly get over the little fact that today makes
TEN YEARS SINCE I FIRST JOINED DEVIANT ART!!!!
On August 11th of 2006 I was barely a year out of college, 24 years old, and less than a year into a retail career that was to drag on for far too long At that time my art had only appeared on my LiveJournal and y!Gallery and I had frequent problems with my art being taken down for various reasons. My dear buddy Tae (who I've now known for 15 years!) suggested that I try DA It was a slow start, like many DA newcomers, with me sporadically posting random photo-
A couple days ago, I was spending my time to expand my new horizons of photography that I've been dreaming for- aerial photography. That's something I've neglected too much because of the stuff in my head was, lot's of crap bothered me, health and life issues, damned small crap kept me away from realizing things what I really wanted to do.
When I've jumped out of a plane after passing the second layer of clouds, at 4200m elevation...
I felt like Link from Skyward Sword jumping out of his Loftwing. :D
The experience of skydiving is very immense and surreal. My most favourite moment is when I crawl on the edge of plane's "door" and giving

After looking at some of the atrocious asking prices on the DeviantArt forum I stumbled onto ~johnchalos (https://www.deviantart.com/johnchalos)'s journal.
So our newest contributor was kind enough to let me re-post his journal here for your reading pleasure:
"Generally, the good graphic novels fetch $100 - $300 per page, although professionals who have been in the industry for a long time can command as much as three times that amount. In fact, one elite illustrator commanded as much as $1,000 a page (on a 22-page comic book)! Most of the popular titles that artists, like David Cassaday, work on are monthly issues, which end up providing him with a six-figure salary. The ba

Publishing Opportunity for New Artists!

I've met Dave many times and he is always looking to help younger artists in need of a kick start! His current projects are detailed in this journal http://techgnotic.deviantart.com/journal/Dave-Elliott-An-Authentic-Citizen-384734344 along with lots of great advice on how to get into the publishing industry. His two anthologies and how to participate in
Just wanted to let you know that wherever I go I feel that whatever is that you seem to love you destroy. This hurts me deeply. Even though I'm a part of you and I supposed to feel part of the "family" and I suppose to be proud, I'm not. I'm from the South-East Hungary. My parents are living here in the village or a lovely little house within the forest at the lake. I LOVE coming here! Do you know why? Because it is peaceful, it is quiet, it is majestic, humble, wild, and it smells good. And yet I'm sad. I'm sad and disappointed because every single time I'm coming here to respectfully enjoy this heavenly peace I find less and less of this pl

orld War I (1914-1918) was a human catastrophe
that devastated Western civilization and mocked the hope inherent in “modernism”. The sheer volume of the war’s slaughter was beyond belief. The horror of it all destroyed the trust in science, medicine and technology as the golden gateway to a harmonious and peaceful future for humanity. All that was thought to be good had been twisted to the evil purpose of a global war. A global sense of hopefulness was replaced with a global sense of fear and loathing.
